  FrontPoint Security Equipment

FrontPoint Security provides 100% wireless home security equipment.  FrontPoint’s equipment manufacturer is General Electric (GE) also known as Interlogix (GE’s home security division).  FrontPoint currently uses the GE Simon XT Control Panel.  The Control Panel’s size is 2.2″ high x 5.7″ long x 7.0″ wide.  The panel fits nicely on a tabletop or can be easily mounted to the wall with a few small screws. 

The Simon XT can handle up to 40 individual GE alarm sensors (39 with FrontPoint as their cellular module counts as one “device”) and over 100 Z-Wave wireless home automation devices.  The Simon XT also has a 212 word spoken vocabulary, an LED backlit screen, a 100db siren, chime features and the DJW-1.2(6V1.2AH) 24-Hour Backup Battery.

FrontPoint also offers three options for security cameras.  They have a Fixed Wireless Camera for indoor use, a Pan/Tilt Camera for indoor use and an Outdoor Hard Wired IR (Infrared) Camera.  All cameras require a high speed internet connection with the two indoor cameras requiring a wireless connection. 

The outdoor camera must be wired to the router itself and can use a POE (Power Over Ethernet) cable to provide power to the camera as well as an option for a standard plug.  The wireless indoor cameras must be plugged in to an outlet for power.

  FrontPoint Security Monitoring

FrontPoint provides 100% cellular monitoring with all of its alarm systems.  Cellular monitoring is the most reliable and safest method for monitoring an alarm system.  No phone lines are required and no internet connection is needed in order to use FrontPoint’s system.  The only time an internet connection will be needed is if you want to use Wireless Security Cameras with the alarm system, which are part of the Ultimate Monitoring plan offered by FrontPoint which is described below.

FrontPoint also boasts the patented “Crash & Smash” feature, also known as Pending Alarms.  This feature allows the alarm system to send a signal to the monitoring station before the alarm actually goes off.  When you enter the home through a door there is often a delay time between the time you open the door until you disarm your alarm system.  This allows you to disarm your system before the siren sounds and the monitoring station is notified. 

Traditional alarm systems did not have online/remote access or keychain remotes, so a homeowner would have to enter the house prior to disarming the system.  The standard delay period is about 30 seconds.  An intruder could potentially disrupt the alarm signal during this time not allowing the system to send a signal.  With the “Crash & Smash” feature the signal is sent immediately when the delay period starts – this means if the alarm system is not disarmed correctly, or at all, the signal becomes a real alarm event and the monitoring station will be calling.  This feature is offered with FrontPoint’s Interactive Monitoring and Ultimate Monitoring plans.
